Sign the Petition: Make Polluters Pay, Help Vermonters Harmed by Toxic Pollution

Ask your Representatives to support S.197 in order to provide much-needed protections for Vermont families harmed by toxic contamination. This bill will help Vermonters like those in Bennington whose drinking water was contaminated with the chemical PFOA recover expenses for damages they’ve experienced to their health or property.  S.197 includes a provision that would allow Vermonters harmed by the release of toxic chemicals to recover costs for monitoring their health to address concerns that the toxic exposure will lead to a disease. S.197 takes important steps to help level the playing field so Vermonters will have a fair opportunity to recover damages from the company who profited off the pollution – instead of those costs falling on Vermont families and taxpayers.

Dear Representative,

Please support S.197 to give Vermonters better legal remedies to recover damages if they’ve been impacted by toxic chemical contamination.

As we’ve seen in Bennington from people unwittingly exposed to toxic PFOA in their drinking water, toxic contamination can harm Vermonters’ health, reduce their property value, and result in expensive medical monitoring due to their increased risk of certain diseases.

We hope to have your support on this important bill.
