Montpelier, VT — Today, Vermont Conservation Voters (VCV) announced its endorsement of Vermont Auditor Doug Hoffer for re-election.
“Auditor Doug Hoffer has used his office to bring transparency and accountability to the state government on a range of issues, including environmental priorities. VCV is confident that he will continue working hard to ensure taxpayer dollars are invested wisely, and that our government is effectively executing its laws and regulations to ensure a healthy environment for all Vermonters,” said Lauren Hierl, executive director of VCV.
Auditor Doug Hoffer added “I am proud to have been endorsed by the VCV. I share their concern for protecting Vermont’s environment, which is so important to our quality of life and the economy. I will continue to devote resources to monitoring the State’s efforts in this area.”
In his time serving as Auditor, Hoffer has examined numerous state programs covering everything from health care to economic development. He has examined the efficacy of clean water programs at the Agency of Agriculture, Food and Markets, and how clean water funds are being spent, while providing meaningful recommendations on how we can ensure taxpayer dollars are well-spent on improving the water quality impacts of our farms. He has worked to identify ways to improve enforcement efforts at the Department of Environmental Conservation, and in ensuring our State Agency Energy Plan is effective at achieving its energy conservation goals.
Hierl added, “With major state expenditures underway and essential in the economic response and recovery to the pandemic, Auditor Hoffer will bring a critical set of eyes to how that money is invested, and how it can be effectively spent to help spur a swift and resilient recovery.”
“With a federal administration actively undermining government oversight and transparency, it’s more important than ever to have leaders like Doug Hoffer who will prioritize Vermonters’ right to an effective and accountable state government, and ensure our government is successfully working on critical issues of our time, including climate change and clean water,” added Hierl. “We encourage Vermonters to re-elect Doug Hoffer as Vermont’s Auditor.”
