Great American Outdoors Act passes in U.S. House and Senate
Yesterday the U.S. House passed the Great American Outdoors Act, which permanently funds the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF). The Senate passed this legislation in June.
For the first time, full and permanent funding of LWCF has passed both chambers of Congress! This is a historic victory for our public lands and outdoor recreation, nationwide and right here in Vermont.
“We are thrilled to celebrate a historic win for conservation in Vermont and across the country with yesterday’s strong bipartisan vote in support of the Great American Outdoors Act. We appreciate the long-time support, leadership, and persistence of Senators Leahy, Sanders, and Congressman Welch in working to advance this critical issue.Lauren Hierl, Vermont Conservation Voters
Vermont has benefited tremendously from the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF), and with long-term, sustainable funding, we look forward to more projects that will support our rural economy, create jobs, and improve the resilience of our communities.”
This is the second to last step to #FundLWCF. Now we need the President to sign this vital legislation that supports outdoor recreation across the country! To learn more about the Great American Outdoors Act, click here.
