Montpelier, VT – Today, Vermont Conservation Voters (VCV) announced its endorsement of David Zuckerman for Lieutenant Governor of Vermont.
During his previous tenure as Lieutenant Governor, and during his nearly twenty years of service in the Vermont House and Senate, David Zuckerman has been a consistent and effective leader on issues aligned with Vermont Conservation Voters’ mission.
Through its endorsements, VCV aims to educate voters across the state on candidates whose values and actions align with our vision for Vermont to advance and defend policies that protect the environment and promote health, while advancing social, racial, and economic justice, and strengthening our democracy.
“At this profoundly challenging time in our country, we need leaders who we know will fight for the issues that matter to Vermonters. As we see attacks on democracy, and federal courts stripping away rights and undermining the ability of the federal government to address pressing challenges like climate change, we need proven statewide leaders with a strong vision for Vermont,” said Lauren Hierl, Executive Director of Vermont Conservation Voters. “David Zuckerman is the right leader, with a track record of working to address the most pressing challenges of the day in a way that will help all Vermont communities be healthier and more resilient.”
David Zuckerman added, “I am deeply honored to receive the endorsement from Vermont Conservation Voters. Over my many years of service, I have worked closely with VCV to protect Vermont’s land and waters, to expand programs that will help us meet our carbon emission goals, and to protect Vermonters from toxins in the environment. Their role in keeping our people and state safe and healthy cannot be overstated and I look forward to continuing this work with them as Vermont’s next Lieutenant Governor.”
Hierl added, “In his many years of public service, including during his previous tenure as Lt. Governor, David Zuckerman has long championed policies that safeguard our environment and support our communities. As an organic farmer, David sees the impact of climate change firsthand, and knows we must act urgently. VCV encourages Vermonters to elect David Zuckerman as Lieutenant Governor of Vermont so we can have the strong leadership we need as we face ongoing threats to our democracy and a healthy planet.”
For its endorsement process, VCV invites all statewide candidates to participate in an interview process. In addition to holding interviews, staff gathers information about each candidate interested in our endorsement’s environmental voting record and demonstrated leadership if they previously served in office, as well as examples from their career and work they’ve done in their communities that aligns with our mission. The VCV Board of Directors votes on all endorsements.
