The Vermont legislative session has reached its “crossover” deadline. Crossover is the point where policy bills must pass out of their chamber’s committee of origin to stay alive. That makes it the perfect moment to check in on how things are going under the Golden Dome.

In this episode of Democracy Dispatch, we’re doing our annual Halftime Report on the 2026 session. Dan Fingas and I walk through where some of the biggest environmental and democracy issues stand right now – what’s moving forward, what’s stalled, and what to watch as the second half of the session begins and the biennium winds down.

Using Vermont Conservation Voters’ Common Agenda as a guide, we take a look at key priorities like clean energy, toxics, water quality, and protecting our democracy, and talk about what advocates and lawmakers accomplished before crossover.

The second half of the session is where negotiations intensify and the details really matter, so this episode is your quick guide to what’s still in play.

Looking for even more info? Want to engage in the conversation yourself? We will be joined by our partner organizations for a mid-session webinar happening next Wednesday, March 25, at 12 Noon. Registration is open.
